Offene Systeme sind wichtiger denn je. Die neue Welt des eBusiness verlangt nach offenen Anwendungen, die kommunizieren können. Das Nebeneinander von Konkurrenz und Kooperation in der Wirtschaft von heute lässt proprietäre Systeme kaum mehr zu. Der unabhängige Verein 'Swiss Open Systems User Group' (/ch/open) wurde bereits 1982 mit der Vision gegründet, die Verwendung von offenen Systemen zu fördern. Heute interessiert uns UNIX als offenes Betriebssystem nach wie vor, zumal das freie UNIX look-alike GNU/Linux und unzählige sogenannte 'Open Source' Anwendungen im Quellcode vorliegen und damit offener nicht sein könnten.
Im Zentrum unserer Aktivität liegt die Weiterbildung unserer Mitglieder.
